Case study · Financial Services

A recent case, start to finish.

The threat. A copy of the bank’s mobile login page was collecting customer passwords, promoted with fake “verify your account” emails that appeared to come from the bank itself.

What we did. We had the page pulled by its hosting company and the domain seller within the hour, then set the bank’s DMARC to block, so the emails feeding the page were refused instead of delivered.

The result. The page and the mail feeding it closed together, so the clones that followed had nothing left driving traffic to them. Customers who clicked the original link reached a dead domain.

of mail faked from their own address now blocked

12

follow-on clones removed the same month

Removal time is measured from our detection to the page returning an error, confirmed from outside. The blocking figure is mail failing the checks on their own domain being refused instead of delivered, which is a different job from removing lookalike domains.
