Solutions / Email Authentication / BIMI certification

Your logo in the inbox, and proof it is yours.

BIMI puts your verified logo beside your mail in the inboxes that support it. It is the visible reward for having already closed your domain to fakes, because it will not show at all until DMARC is set to block.

What BIMI is

A logo, and a certificate that vouches for it.

BIMI stands for Brand Indicators for Message Identification. It is a record in your domain settings pointing at two things: your logo as a specially profiled image file, and a Verified Mark Certificate, which is a document from a certificate authority confirming that the logo really is your registered trademark.

Get both right and supporting inboxes show your logo next to your name instead of a grey circle with an initial in it. That is the whole of what it does. It is a trust signal on mail that has already proved it is yours, not a check that stops anything, and the honest way to think about it is as the last step of the email work rather than a product on its own.

Before you can have it

Three things have to be true.

This is the one extra we regularly tell people they are not ready for. Better to know now than after you have paid for an application that cannot be approved.

01

DMARC set to block

Not watch-only, and not sending to spam. Blocking. This is the hard gate, it is the bulk of the work, and it is what the base of Email Authentication delivers.

02

A registered trademark

The logo has to be a mark you have actually registered, in a territory the certificate authorities recognise. An application still in progress is not enough, and no amount of paying anyone speeds that up.

03

A logo that meets the profile

A specific and fussy flavour of SVG, square, with a solid background and no scripting. Almost no brand has one already, so preparing it is part of the job rather than something you are asked to supply.

The first of those three is the real work, and it is the base rather than this extra. See how blocking gets switched on →

How it works

Checked first, then certified.

01

Check

Your DMARC state, your trademark registration, and the logo you have, assessed before anything is ordered.

02

Prepare

Your logo rebuilt into the profile the standard requires, matched to the mark as registered.

03

Certify

The Verified Mark Certificate applied for and seen through the certificate authority checks.

04

Publish

The record published, then confirmed rendering in the inboxes that support it.

What's included

The whole application, handled.

Including the parts that are nobody's favourite job, like rebuilding a logo to a specification written for machines.

Readiness checked before anything is ordered
Logo rebuilt to the required image profile
Trademark evidence assembled for the application
Verified Mark Certificate applied for and seen through
BIMI record published and confirmed rendering
Renewal tracked before the certificate lapses
Check it yourself

See how close you are.

The free checker reads your DMARC and BIMI records and tells you which of the three prerequisites you already meet. Public domain records only, so nothing is changed.
